Governor’s Office Defends Bauchi’s ICT Infrastructure Plan Against Critics

The Bauchi State Government has issued an official clarification regarding recent media reports about its 2025 budget allocation for computer equipment. The statement addresses claims about an alleged N400 million provision for six computers, describing these reports as inaccurate and misleading.

According to Special Adviser Mukhtar Gidado, the approved 2025 state budget actually allocates N250 million within the SSG’s Office for a comprehensive ICT infrastructure project. This investment encompasses laptops, desktop computers, networking equipment, and associated infrastructure aimed at advancing the state’s E-governance initiatives.

The clarification emphasizes that this allocation is part of a broader strategy to connect various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to improve information management and decision-making efficiency. The state’s Bureau for ICT, which has demonstrated its capabilities through recent achievements including the first virtual screening of a Commissioner-nominee at the sub-national level, oversees the procurement and deployment of all ICT equipment.

Highlighting its commitment to transparency, the state government notes that:
– All budget documents are publicly available on the state’s website
– Implementation performance reports are regularly published
– The state has improved its ranking in the Budget Sub-National Fiscal Transparency Index from eighth to third position in recent quarters

The administration emphasizes that its budgetary processes strictly adhere to constitutional requirements under Sections 120 and 121, as well as the Bauchi State Fiscal Responsibility Law 2009. This ensures all expenditures are properly authorized through appropriate legislative channels.

The government reaffirms its dedication to maintaining high standards of fiscal transparency and accountability in its ongoing mission to modernize state operations and improve service delivery to Bauchi citizens.
